After storing the car in the garage for winter, the first thing to do was give it a really good wash to get all the salt and grit off the paintwork.
After washing and drying, I used a clay bar and some detailing spray to remove all the contaminants from the paint surface. The clay bar was pretty dirty by the end with a lot of the dirt coming from the lower sections of the side skirts near the wheels as you would expect. Even the carbon bonnet feels smoother.
I Didn't think it would make much difference but after an hour or so the entire car was complete and the paint had an amazing glass sheen to it and felt like it had just been waxed. The camera picture doesn't do it justice but there does seem to be a deeper sheen to the blue paint now so it will be good to see what effect a good quality glaze and wax has.
I'm not really too sure about how far you are meant to go with auto detailing but from what I have seen on the web, it's time to apply a glaze coat then a wax coat to fully protect the paint so these have now been ordered and awaiting delivery. After the winter weather we have been having, 2hrs in the garage with a hoodie is enough for this weekend!!
The other item I ordered for next week is a scratch remover to get shot of any light marks on the pain which needs to be applied after clay but before waxing, so this should be interesting to see! You always see these places online charging £150 for a 'detail' so I bought the same stuff and it's time to have a go myself!
Ill let you know next week how that goes....
