After sitting in the box for a long time, I finally started the fuel rails install!
So far I have spent about 4 hrs today carefully labelling each hose/pipe/cable that I have disconnected so that it should be a lot easier to work out which bit goes where in the end. You could probably do it a lot fast, but I thought I would take my time and detail each piece carefully as it will pay off when trying to put everything back!
Basically I disconnected the battery and checked that the fuel pressure was zero. I was then able to start removing boost, intercooler pipes and the upper coolant hoses. When slackening the bolts on the manifold, its a good idea to leave 4 bolts in the inlet manifold and remove the bolts between the Tumble generator valves so that they can be removed at the same time you lift off the manifold.
There are two coolant hoses that run into the throttle body and also a you need to remember that the entire wiring loom is bolted on beneath the manifold! This means disconnecting a lot of the engine main sensor harnesses so don't just unbolt the manifold and try to yank it off!!!
Anyway, after slow, methodical approach, it was tea time and I have actually found that giving yourself a structured "walk away" point really keeps you calm as its easy to get sucked in and once you start making mistakes due to be tiered, its easy to really mess it up. So take your time and spread the work out over a few more days works best!
Just a pic showing the rails on top of the engine to check hose size before the job began.
