Normally the blow by gas and oil in the crank case can get recirculated into the intake track and recirculated from the crack case breather.
With the catch can, it condenses in the can instead if clogging up the filter. I haven't had to clean it since it was fitted with the new engine, so that's a good 7000 ago roughly????
Anyway, two bolts removed it and I drained it to an oil pan. 10 mins later it was back in place. Not really that exciting but it was routine maintenance....
