After receiving an amazing WRC wheel from my Fiancé for Christmas, I got up this morning and decided to have a go.
I used an HKB boss kit from Japan. This allows me to bypass the airbag warning light on the dash as the new wheel doesn't have an airbag. Also, it includes the horn connection wires and the whole kit just works so well out of the box. Apart from the Japanese manual!! After a bit of head scratching I figured out which wire goes where for the horn and the air bag resister was a simple plug and play loom.
First I used a Torx head to slacken the two screw that hold the STI horn section from the original wheel. This allowed me to remove the centre section and gain access to the 17mm nut that hold the wheel on to the shaft.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE ABOVE!! Pump the brake pedal to discharge any residual voltage in the system. Messing about with safety systems is dangerous so you have to be 100% confident you know its safe.
Then use a 17mm socket to slacken the nut and DONT remove it. You now need to yank the wheel towards you HARD. The nut still in place will stop you from smashing your face as it needs a good yank to break the tension!
Then disconnect the nut and remove the wheel.
You know heed to feed the harness wire through the hub and fit the hub to the splines on the steering rack shaft. Ensure the arrows marked top, are at the top and wheel and car wheels are all straight.
The WRC wheel is attached to the hub with 6 small flat head screws and then connect the horn button and push in place. Easy!
