I decided to strip the cylinder heads, as funds are a little low at the moment for the build, so I decided to at least clean and inspect the castings anyway.
I would a lot of bent valves, not all of them, but a good proportion, so I have the feeling that the old anti lag is pretty aggressive on the cylinder heads.
Once placing all the parts on the shelf, IN ORDER, I removed the valve stem seals, all of which were extremely brittle. They definitely needed replacing anyway. That could explain some of the discolouration in a couple of cylinders....lube oil passing down the stem and burning in there??
Oh well, it was back to the plastic tank and the bottle of engine degreaser. Everything got cleaned, degreased and dried with compressed air and a towel. I also gave the dents and gasket surfaces a hand snd with a block sander and some ultra fine grade paper. only enough to lightly remove any gasket. Also I removed the small dent you can see in the bottom left of the following photo, near the valves, which is in the inside of the combustion space. Something was definitely flying about in there!!!
Once the bottom end is finished, the heads will go to the machine shop. Ill have to go for new valves and a get the seats re-cut. Depending on funs at the time, Ill probably go all titanium and that should let the heads take some major abuse.
