Setting up FC Datalogit.
The Apexi ECU, 20 yrs on is still a great ECU, it might not have the most modern motorsport features, but as an Air Fuel computer, it works, very well. I wanted to keep the Type R period perfect so deliberately went for the Apexi, with its Hand controller that could then be mounted to the dash board to give live telemetry from the ECU to the driver.
The down side, was that it was designed so that you had to be an Apexi power dealer to have the software cable to gain access to the ECU to map it on a laptop. Thankfully, years later, FC Datalogit came along and lets you do exactly that. Plus it provides 5V inputs so you can connect up a wideband to log AFR readings.
Anyway, I spent this morning just playing about with it, and last night, my friend Pete helped me tweek some basic IGN and INJ map settings to get us started before we live map it on the road.
Here is a pic of the software logging the AFR reading at idle. It took about a minute to connect the 5v output from the AEM wideband into the datalogit box, and the signal was pre-configured in FC Edit software. So simple and effective.
So I pretty much setup for later on this week when we can do some 4th gear power runs, log some data and get the map dialled in and the car will finally be setup for UK fuel!
