The build commences

Well today was certainly productive, after building a new workbench, I unwrapped and sorted through all the parts that had arrived mail order. After opening the new case from Subaru, it included new case bolts, but I wanted to spend the time to release the tension, in the opposite order of torquing them up. Once the bolts were removed, the two case halves came apart easily enough.

I then spent about an hour using "Gunk" degreasant cleaning and washing the block and carefully cleaning the liners. I then rinsed them and washed them in soapy water to make sure there was no bits of metal left over from the machine work. The block was already very clean and prepared so its was more as a precautionary measure. I then use the air gun to blow dry the block, then I rubbed the bores with oil to protect them over night in storage.

I plan to do the same preparation cleaning on the crankshaft and bearings tomorrow and hopefully get round to test fitting everything. I can then check clearances and give it a test crank over by hand to make sure everything is free to turn!
