I decided to order an Apexi Boost control kit to match the ecu in the MR2. The beauty of the Apexi solenoid is that boost can be controlled through the hand commander on the dash, without the need for another box in the cabin and it also has factory connectors to connect into the factory wiring loom, so the car can be returned to standard, without splicing any new wires.
I also like the fact that it integrates so seamlessly and there are 4 boost settings available on the hand commander. Once it arrives, I should be able to install it quite quickly near the under side of the inlet manifold.
As the ECU is currently installed, I noticed that it only produced 0.7Bar boost pressure. After some checks for leaks and fault finding (factory boost target is 0.8Bar) I remember to switch on the boost setting in the Apexi ecu. As the ECU is trying to control the factory solenoid, it produces a steady 1.02Bar boost, but this is uncontrollable. Once the new solenoid arrives, it is designed to work perfectly with the ecu and boost can then be mapped to a maximum 1.2 Bar. The car really felt alive at 1.Bar so it will be exciting to feel the results.
