Since I bought the car, there has been small squeak from one of the drive belts. Either the alternator or the air conditioning.....I couldnt be sure.
After NOT following my friends advice, to remove the engine to replace these, I stupidly thought it would be easier to do them with the engine still in the car. How wrong was I?!!!
Well, around 10hrs of about was involved, lots of bad language and finally the car was back in service with the belts replaced.
Basically, the car is insanely tight to work on and the intercooler had to be removed. This involved removing some coolant lines plus the upper and lower intercooler brackets and a lot of fiddling to get the IC out of the bay. Its still really tight and requires delicate fiddling to remove the IC and with just millimetres to spare, it does come out.
There are plenty of guides on line how to do the varies individual jobs like the AC and alternator, but you need twice as much time as you expect!
I took a few pictures, but the main thing is....no more squeak and two good new belts in place. After comparing the old and new belts side by side.....it was a good move to replace them.
