What’s next?

Now that I’m getting back to work, all the car work will be on hold for the next couple of months. I decided to do a quick update on the future plans and what’s to look forward too....

The Evo X:
This is my daily driver and it seems a nice car for living with on daily basis. It’s actually practical, all wheel drive, boot space, 5 doors and a radio! Plus, I hate the sound of evo engines so the stock exhaust is perfect. I’ll probably just use this one and keep it clean and get my moneys worth out of it for the next year. Nic to have a reliable car that you can just jump into and use.

The Beast
So far, the mapping has gone really well. After a recent club run, I was struggling to find a small water/coolant leak. This has been since the start of the recent engine build. I thought it could have been a hose or perhaps a clip leaking in an area I couldn’t see. After really raising the boost lressure the leak seamed to increase. Naturally it’s easy to jump ahead and fear the worst (like head gasket slowly failing) but thankfully no. Thanks to the cold weather in the North of Ireland, I started the car one morning for a leak check and found a lot of steam coming from the radiator/coolant overflow tank. Again I feared the worst as it was impossible to see down to the area. I let the engine warm a little more and then started all the same checks again. I actually discovered that it was the most simple solution..... the radiator cap on the mishimoto radiator was not seating correctly. EVEN when it was secured tightly. It felt like it fitted correctly and even did but there was the faintest amount of steam when the engine was really hot. This meant that under pressure, the coolant was ‘flashing’ off. If it wasn’t for the cold weather I would still have been looking! Anyway, I managed to seat it and not a drop of coolant was lost afterwards!

The plan for winter is to tweek the boost map and add a final few tweeks. The boost target is 1.7Bar on the semi closed deck engine. However, as mentioned on past posts, I have sent the spare engine and heads off to the machine shop to get the deck closed. The next engine build will start once the machine shop is ready!

The Type RA
This one is compete and just in storage...... might get another MOT on it and put it up for sale down the line. Undecided as the values are climbing so it’s hard to know.

The Type R.
It needs a service, and inspection of all fluids for long term storage. I’ll probably do the oil and fluids in the driveline next plus coolant.

I have it a good wash and cleaned all the arches before storage and also touched up and couple ofstone  chips to make sure sure the metal didn’t get rusty. Apart from that, I washed it and threw a cover over it for short term storage.

The RX7
I would love to get this driving next year over the summer months. It’s a car I really miss not using. I have done spark plugs and oil previously but my Aim is also to change the coolant for Toyota long life coolant as it has the best protective qualities for a rotary engine strangely!! After that, it needs an MOT and get it moving. Again.... car cover time

The S202
I have literally started the engine to heat cycle it... that’s it. Still in top secret storage location with a cover it. No plans to touch it for at least 5 years!

That’s about it for now. The cars are slowly getting finished off one by one. It just takes a lot more time than you initially think and unfortunately more cash than you want all at one go! I’ll have more updates later once I get my hands dirty.
