I haven't really had a chance to drive the RX7 since I purchased it a few years ago. Most of the time its sat in storage and I have only changed the oil and spark plugs, prior to mapping.
Since the weather is slowly improving I decided I needed to actually experience what driving one of of these iconic cars is really like.
The MOT test in Norther Ireland has some of its own unique quirks. One of them being you MUST have dual speed display available in both MPH and KPH.
In order to achieve this, I had purchased a stock Apexi Power FC when I got the car. As the car was imported to England, it complied with its first MOT as the dealer had converted the dashboard to MPH for me. This wasn't good enough though for the test in Belfast this year....
I had previously installed the POWER FC in the footwell of the car and used some double sided Gorilla tape to mount the Hand commander on the dash. I fed the cable from the ecu in the passenger footwell up to the dash and hid most of it in the glovebox. This gave a clean looking install and the display was still visible clearly from the drivers seat. It meant that that the dash dials showed MPH and I could select KPH as a single digital display on the hand commander on the dash for test day. The added advantage was that the display could be changed back to show all engine vitals when driving such as the all important coolant temperature and boost pressure.
