Cage install

Firstly, apologies for the delay in the last update, I have been on holiday and needed some time to switch off from the online world!

As mentioned, I had ordered a safety devices rear cage section only. I had deliberately not wanted the front section due to normally using the car for road use mainly and didn't fancy having to use padding or a helmet in case of a road collision, where there is a big chance of cracking your head off the A Pillar bar. I think the steel bar would have looked better after a collision than my forehead would have...

Any, the cage install was strangely quite straight forward and with a friends help to manoeuvre the cage into the car, it was a 6 hout job for one person! Proper DIY stuff.

Basically to make things as quick as possible, I started by removing the front and rear seats plus all the trim. I did leave the carper it place however, and managed to pull it back enough for the supports to fit.

Next up, my friend (Big thanks to Andy @BCS) helped me to move the cage into the car. In order to do so, he climbed in the drivers seat area and I passed it in slowly from the passenger side, with the cage upside down. This allowed us to get the rear mounting bars in the door without having to remover it. We then rotated the cage inside the car and got it roughly into position.

Next up was to use the dremmel and grind off the paint and mark up the areas where the cage feet would sit. These were steel reinforcement plates that the cage was bolted onto. Once marker, as the instructions stated, these were tack welded into position.

Once the forward feet plates were tacked, I marked up where the rears would sit against the rear bulkhead, and then drilled through. When drilling, you have to be careful as you drill through to the upper area of the wheel arch, very close to your rear suspension upper top mounts! It was then a matter of jacking the car up at the rear so that you can get enough clearance to fit your hand up the wheel arch between the suspension and install the bolts that you pass through from inside the car.

Once everything was bolted in tight, I did another welding run on the feet pate behind the drivers seat and passenger seat, then pushed the carpet back into place. Last thing to do was spray paint any exposed metal/weld and thats it!
